Sleep is staged
Sleep medicine divides the night into wake, non-REM stages, and REM using brain, eye, and muscle signals. Dreams are reported most often from REM, and also from non-REM. A phone cannot see those signals.

Sleep medicine divides the night into wake, non-REM stages, and REM using brain, eye, and muscle signals. Dreams are reported most often from REM, and also from non-REM. A phone cannot see those signals.
Trained lucid dreamers have communicated from REM with pre-agreed eye movements. That shows a kind of reflective awareness during sleep. It does not show that every induction trick works.
One family of theories says consciousness is information broadcast widely enough that many brain systems can use it. It organizes a lot of attention and report data. It is not a settled measurement of a dream.
Brains may constantly guess the next sensation and update when the guess fails. Some researchers use that idea for dreaming. The framework is influential. It is not a completed explanation of why a particular image appeared.
Integrated information theory tries to tie consciousness to how a system is causally structured. It is debated, including its claims about what would or would not be conscious. Do not treat a number from that theory as a reading of your night.
Waking perception depends on attention, memory, and sensory pathways that can be studied. Dreaming borrows some of that machinery while the outside senses are mostly gated. How much of the waking model still applies inside a dream is an open question.
Two close tones, one in each ear, produce a perceived beat. Evidence that this reliably changes mood, sleep, or lucidity is weak and mixed. In this lab it is a stimulus you may log, not a treatment.
